Why I'm in the NZ Businesswomen

I joined NZ Businesswomen (formally Venus) to find connection, encouragement, and support as a woman in a predominantly male industry. As Director at Clive Wilson Switchboards, I lead a team of 25 staff across several departments, including electrical manufacturing, automation, powder coating, and engraving. While I’m proud of the responsibility I hold, I also recognise that leadership can be isolating—especially in technical environments where female representation is limited.

Being part of the NZ Businesswomen network gives me the opportunity to surround myself with like-minded women who understand the challenges and rewards of running a business, leading teams, and showing up as your whole self in a professional role. It’s a space where I can learn from others, grow in confidence, and develop both personally and professionally.

I'm here to build genuine relationships, gain fresh perspectives, and be inspired by the stories of women forging their own paths in business. I also hope to give back to the group in the same way—by sharing what I’ve learned, encouraging others, and growing alongside this incredible community.

My point of difference

Clive Wilson Switchboards isn’t just where I work — it’s part of who I am. I’m proud to be the third generation in our family business, continuing the legacy my grandfather started in 1968. I didn’t walk into a leadership role overnight — I earned my place by working from the ground up, learning every part of the business firsthand and gaining a deep respect for the people and processes that keep it running.

What sets me apart is that I lead with a rare combination of legacy and lived experience. I understand the technical, operational, and cultural sides of our business because I’ve been immersed in it for most of my life. I bring a long-term perspective to every decision we make, with a strong sense of responsibility to our team, our customers, and the reputation we’ve built over decades.

Now, as a co-director, I’m focused on modernising our systems, strengthening our team, and ensuring the values our business was built on continue to guide us into the future.
