Can you describe your business in one or two sentences?
I’m a personal training and movement coach, working with everyday women 40+ throughout her perimenopause journey to move well and be strong, to have the functional movement so she can live her life fully into her 80s & beyond.
I’m here to support and guide her to know how to move her body in the way that works for her and her lifestyle. THE WHOLE PERSON.
I’m also more than movement, I’ll support you to understand the connection between sleep, stress, pain patterns, nutrition. I’m not just about the workout.
What drove you to start your business/get involved in this industry?
About 17 years ago I went through my own health and fitness journey (which is still evolving today), I had a lot of work colleagues, friends and family ask for advise. I spent 2 years studying very part time (with a new born and 2 year old), to get my personal training certification, following study I knew I wanted to help and support others to fulfil their own health and fitness goals.
Over the last 5 years my personal training and coaching business has evolved to support women to move in a way that fits with her body so get get build the strength and fitness she needs to live her life.
My goal is to give women the tools to be strong enough for her life, while being compassionate and allow her to learn to self regulate. Monitor pain, sleep, recovery, energy, stress etc.
I want women to have a safe space to be heard and know there’s someone in her corner to guide her to be able to move, well be strong to live her life fully.
What do you love about running your business?
I wanted to help other women, by stripping out the noise and all the SHOULDS, make it simple and easy to understand when it comes to movement and health.
Help have a healthier population so we can start living our lives longer as we age. Our life expectancy is increasing but we’re not able to actual LIVE as we age.
What have been some of your biggest challenges?
My own self worth, stepping out and actually telling women what I do.
My clients stay with me because I deliver the support and results they are wanting.
I have high client satisfaction, however I’m not very good at advertising my client successes.
Making sure I have days off.
What is your biggest ambition?
Be the go-to Personal Trainer and movement coach for women during perimenopause in the Wellington region
What does success look like to you?
My clients are staying with me and are comfortable sharing open, honest feedback with me.
I’m receiving client referrals from existing clients and a wider network of physios, chiropractors, health coaches, nutritionists, GPs etc.
If you had to walk away from the company tomorrow, what would you be most proud of?
I’d be most proud of the small but meaningful changes the women I’ve worked with have experienced, knowing she is now about to move without pain, have more energy, and feels more capable in and confident in her everyday lives. Means I’ve been able to make a small difference to have healthier New Zealanders
Who inspires you and why?
My clients inspire me seeing how they grow with confidence and the changes I see with how they move and show up every week.
I’m also inspired by my daughter (13years old), I want to be able to stand out and in the crowd confidently show up as who I am without the fear of worrying about making myself look bad.
What growth have you experienced being in New Zealand Businesswomen?
I’ve been able to nail my one minute promo, meeting a large number of other business women within New Zealand and get the confidence to tell others about my business is and how I help people.
I’ve been able to learn so many tips and tricks from how to use xero (I never knew there was an email address for your invoices), website soes, business strategy to name a few.
Build a stronger referral network to referral my clients to when they need a massage therapist, nutritionist, lawyer, real estate agent (anything really, because Personal training is personal).
I now have a strong solid group of women whom I can share the ups and downs of business with and when I have a question about nearly anything in any business I only need to pick up the phone.
It’s made business a lot less lonely, I no longer feel like I’m on an island.
What’s your favourite pastime when you are not working?
I love going out trail running, being out in nature is so good for my soul. I’m blessed living in Wellington not only do I have trails on my doorstep but it’s only a 20min drive to nearly every trail running option in the region.
I also love sitting in the sun with a good book and cup of tea.
